The Society Through The Years

The first golfing events were held in 1927 including three matches see more details here. By 1931 eight more fixtures were being played annually including one against the Veteran Ladies Golf Association (now the Senior Womens’ Golf Association) which had been formed in1921.

The fixture list expanded rapidly and by 1939, in addition to the Triangular, matches and tours had been played against Seniors teams from France, South Africa and Australia and against more than 60 golf clubs and golfing societies in Great Britain, many with links to the golfing societies of the British Services.

By 1975, the Society has expanded its fixture list to over 80 matches and another 32 matches were added by the turn of the Century. By this time , the Society were playing at all the Open Venues with the exception of Carnoustie. The full list of fixtures including their inauguration years may be found on the Society Fixtures tab.

As the number of matches has increased, so has the numbers of members and so now the Society has over 1000 members representing over 100 of the finest golf courses in the UK including many of the Open Championship venues. Naturally, the R and A is well represented including a number of their Past Captains.
